Sabrina in Paris is an illustration of Audrey Hepburn in her role as Sabrina from the 1954 film Sabrina. It shows her character in her white and black lace ball gown, which in the movie signifies her change from a shy and lovesick, invisible girl, to a confident and mature woman. In the background I chose to include a window that looks out onto Paris with the Eiffel tower in the distance. In the movie, this is where her transformation takes place. The whole piece is made of paper and has details and highlights with watercolor and gouache.

I chose this subject because this movie is about change and growing up. It’s about learning who you are, and falling in love. These themes are close to my heart, and I want to be able to tell that story with my illustrations. I want the viewer to wonder who this character is, and what she is all about, and that is why I chose to put her in a somewhat mysterious pose.

I love cut paper illustration. Papercut art is more rare than other mediums used to illustrate, and I have the potential to explore this deeper, possibly to use it in my design work for papercut icons.

This artwork took a lot of time and concentration, but it is my favorite way to work. I love the dimension and layering in paper pieces, and I love the process as well. I want to create these works of art for people to make them happy when they see it, or to have it benefit them in some way.
