This is a long read, but tough luck. It’s my art-blog. If you’re gonna reblog this- please don’t strip out my story. Thanks.- Jx
One of my happiest, and most favorite, moments at SDCC ‘14 was meeting Kelly Osbourne! It’s rare to find such an unabashedly genuine celeb, who happens to be amazingly cute too these days. I had such a buzz from meeting her- I swear it lasted the whole day. I dubbed her my Comic-Con Girlfriend. We look good together, right?
Kelly was part of a Snoopy/Peanuts panel at comic con. I honestly had no idea. I showed up to the panel thinking it was a Sesame Street panel some friends of mine suggested I go to. Turns out the Sesame Street panel was to take place the following morning. I love Snoopy and Charles Schulz so I decided to stick around. I sat way in the back and couldn’t see the stage at all- so I sat there doodling a new character in my sketchbook: Baxter Batrick!
I kept hearing a girl on the panel with a really cute accent. I’m such a sucker for those. But I couldn’t see who it was. Since it was so early, my zombified pre-caffeinated brain couldn’t make the correlation as to why they were talking about Snoopy and E’s Fashion Police show in the same sentences. Me am dumb when no iced coffee!!!
And at the end of the Snoopy panel, they thanked her. “Kelly Osbourne?!?”, I thought. “I’ve always wanted to meet her, by Jove!” So I scrambled out there and lined up with other folks hoping to meet her. She was gracious. Smiling. Wonderful.
She loved my brother’s faux gameboy ipod touch case, and mentioned it to me as another fan snapped our picture. “I LOVE your Gameboy case, I’ve still got my original gameboy!”. I smiled, and nodded, cause- UH NERVOUS! But silently laughed to myself in my head thinking, “She’s such a CUTE hipster. LOL.” I asked if she would sign my sketchbook, so she did and before I knew it- she planted a beautiful kiss on it! It was almost movie-like… Kelly was captured in slow-motion, golden light coming from the window on the opposite side of her and bathing her as she pressed her lips against my sketchbook. I’ve never been so jealous of one of my own sketchbooks IN MY LIFE! Baxter Batrick is one lucky cartoon character! ;)
I handed her a copy of my Limited edition Character Cat SDCC exclusive Mini-comic (only 20 were made), as well as my bizzy biz card! I regret not asking for her number or email (as friends suggested I should’ve). It would be so cool to collab one day!
Kelly, if you ever see this- Let’s collab someday! Get in touch! What’d you think of Character Cat? Let’s go out for coffee. Or pizza. Seriously!
Thanks for being so gracious, signing my sketchbook, sealing it w/ a kiss, and for giving me such a buzzful SDCC memory I’ll never forget!
